Discrimination and Doggs

In light of all the Michael Vick attention, I thought I would post some information. Nanook and Pooka's mom wrote a great blog entry about her boycott of Nike, for not dropping their endorsement and some of the places we could go to sign petitions surrounding dog fighting etc.

I thought I would call attention ( bee..i mean...see picture above) to a site to is trying to do his part to show what smart, sweet and intelligent dog's Pit Bulls are. I know first hand how great they can be if raised with the same love and affection provided by responsible caring owners, pit bull or not. The stereotype of a viscous pit bull is unwarranted--but will continue as long as we have certain individuals trying to compensate for their small P#ni$#$. But I digress..

There is a great movement to help pit bulls. http://www.lawdogsusa.org/home.html is an organization that provides law enforcement with Pit bulls that have been trained in narcotics and explosives detection.

I thought this was a great site-- one that had pit bulls on the right side of the law and helping break people's perceptions and 'racial profiling' of such a great breed. They comment that this breed is selected because :

"we prefer and specialize in the American pit bull due to their superior work ethic, trustworthy nature and ability. We work with malinois, German shepherds and others and we find no breed matches the American pit bull for stability, human friendliness, work drive and most importantly, their record in the field".

It is sad to think what will happen with the dogs rescued from Vick's house. Reality is, the dogs were trained to kill and do not know any better. They only wanted to please their owner and this is how they were taught--to fight other dogs. These poor dogs-- were probably never shown love and affection like we show our dogs and they will end up paying with their lives because of some human, waste-of-space degenerate... who deserves to suffer like these poor dogs have. I know.. the media has done it''s part in sensationalizing 'pit bull bites'- i mean would 'dog bites ' make as much of a brouhaha. Nope.

I visited a shelter years back and when I went to the Quarantined section (reserved for the 'biters' or aggressive dogs)-- it wasn't filled with pit bulls-- it have ever breed from shar pei's to even a grey hound-- and yes there was a pit in there too but out of 30 dogs there were 2- a female that was pregnant-- that had snipped at someone who got to close to her ( i imagine she isn't the first prego dog to get agitated)-- she had her puppies in the shelter-- so she would be euthanized along with all of her puppies. YES-- because they were killing the mom-- the puppies would not survive they told me- I begged and pleaded to take on all the pups and even the mom if they would let me --I got no where -- no one cared they killing all these poor innocent dogs..it was the rules and they were pit bulls. Sad.

Ok, I am sure I have ranted loooongg enough and Bernard seems to be getting upset...responsible, loving pet owners dont create aggressive dogs ---
PS--Bernard here--I added the picture to do my part in bringing this to your attention--I have humilated my self to the world for this cause :)

Hi Bernard,

Thanks for the informative post! Is that you in the bee costume?
You've done a great job in helping out the pitbulls, the breed who are superior in work ethic and trustworthy!

Love,
Reina

Great posting Bernard! Love the costume! Mom and dad call Mitch Bumblebee boy because of the humming sounds that he makes when he's groaning so your costume really made us laugh!

Hi, Bernard.
That is very sad. And we all know that its not the dogs fault!

A few of our friends have pitbulls and pit bull mixes and they ARE THE SWEETEST, WELL TRAINED, LOVEAABLE DOGS.

Hey, even rottys, and shepards, so sweet and loving when they are raised in loving families.....

I really believe the humans who abuse and torture dogs should be left in small cages, beaten and starved.

It's a thoughtful and interesting post (ie not a rant), and obviously lots of us share your sentiments.

Good to see something positive about a breed that is largely so stigmatised.
