My 4th--sort of

So my 4th of July went as planned---no drama---helped by my staying inside and cool, free from flying bees!!BZZZZZZZ

My parents hung out with me in the morning--then they were off to an annual Crit in Davis. See, my dad is a cyclist--and he loves to race. However, since he thinks he is past his prime in the cycling world-- he has been racing in Masters 35+ as a Cat 1/2. He is a great sprinter and lives for riding---believe me when i tell you he just did ride on Sunday--get this-- almost 110 miles and climbing over 11,000 feet--He races for a team out of Vegas called 'Paul Tracy Racing'-- their main sponsor is-- you guessed it the Indy 500 racing guy Paul Tracy . However, since we are in Nor Cal-- dad has to race by himself sometimes.
Here is dad, second one from the front, in this picture from the race yesterday. And here is is riding behind Michael Hernandez-- who is a former State Crit Champion!! So the competition is steep. And here he is after riding for 50 minutes in 105 degrees : ) You might be asking-- what does my mom do during this?? Well, she helps my dad make his bottles (water), pin his numbers on his kit (the sexy tight speedo thing), cheer on dad and this time around, hold onto her sunglasses-- it was so hot they wouldn't stay on. Oh, and since there was a Starbucks close by-- she sipped on a Soy Vanilla Latte on ice-- while dad sweated to death. And she is the resident photographer-- she needs a lot more practice on her timing to outsmart the digital camera : ) She really tried to get some good pics. Guess this is a good segway to tell those who are unfamiliar with cycling--I am named after a famous French cyclist, Bernard Hinault, who won the Tour de France among other great famous races. Good thing they named me after such a great man!
I also started a donation for Churchill at French Bulldog Rescue Network please take a minute to read about his story, and try not to cry too much...my mommie says the donations are tax deductible (i guess that is good) and it will make the world a better place helping others. Select the Donate button at the top of my blog : ) Any little bit will help him out. In my first 24 hours I have 2 donations (thanks mom for my first one). Make sure to name him in your donation.

Take care my doggs-

Bernard

Wow, your dad must be very fit to do all that cycling. Mum had=s muttered somethng about getting her bike out and me jogging alongside, but something tells me she's not going to be in your dad's league!

Thanks for the info on your name, I was curious!

Master and mistress like cycling. But not like that.

They don't go as far, they go much slower - but they are a bit older than35+.

In fact mistress is cycling nowhere since she sprained her wrist.

Their claim to fame is cycling with Sean Kelly and fellow cyclists last year when a group of them were over here cycling on tandems with blind people.

Anyway, they don't fancy cycling with your dad.

Hey Bernard...
So glad your 4th was uneventful! Did your dad's team will the race? When can I come swimming??? (sorry I slipped that in there)

Hey me and Mom went and donated to Churchill. We read about him on Balboa's blog. That is so sad. I hope he can get better soon!

Lots of Licks, Ruby

I've been blogging about Churchill too and sent over a donation when we heard about him. It's just makes me and mommy soooo angry about what happnened to him, BUT also happy about how many donations he has on his foster page. Even though some humans are evil there are many humans that are kind and loving.

I was wondering how I could add a donation link to the FBRN, cuz not only am I a Frenchie too, but the FBRN is organization we donate our money to.

COOL DUDE!

Wow - your mom has some really important jobs to do while your dad is racing! Good thing she can handle it all and you aren't forced to accompany her and overheat and stuff.

Churchill's story makes my girl cry. We've been following his progress and it's just so sad what some people are capable of. And then there are others, like that FBRN, who make us smile in the midst of our tears. Bless them! :-)

Hey Bernard,
My Dad loves to bike too but he does mostly mountain biking as a hobby.
Was it a good race??

We donated through your site and then mommy bought the brown garden Frenchie. Mommy says that sometimes spending money on those who need makes us feel better, and she's right.

Oh by the way, awesome name, that's so cool, and your a cool dude, dude! hee hee

Bernard,

Your dad looks almost dangerous on the road! (If he goes that fast while cycling, I can understand how he was able to drive 125 mph).
Your mom, however, sounds like she's even busier than your dad during the races.

Thanks for setting up the button to donate for Churchill. My girl and I couldn't believe what happened to him. At least he's in good hands now!

Stay cool, man.

Your goober bud,
Stanley

Wow! Your dad is pretty talented. My ma ape does triathlons and her least favorite part is the cycling. Because she STINKS at it. SO she admires anyone good on two wheels.

I'm off to look at Churchill. I will bring some tissues.
